1. Phoenix and Scottsdale

Best For: Desert Paradise
Phoenix and Scottsdale offer a balance of adventure, luxury, and relaxation.
Arizona is the place I have spent the most time outside of my home state, and I can assure you there is plenty to do and enjoy this time of year!
Some of the best things to do in Phoenix are taking on hiking trails like Camelback Mountain or taking a stroll at the beautiful Desert Botanical Garden.
There are so many fun things to do in Scottsdale right around the corner. Scottsdale is known for its upscale resorts, art galleries, and lively Old Town.
With spring temperatures averaging around 75°F to 85°F, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the area’s outdoor activities, from golf to desert jeep tours.
Stay: Scottsdale 2-Bedroom Apartment
2. Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Channel Islands

Best for: City and Island Combo
Santa Barbara, Ventura, and the Channel Islands offer a unique combination of coastal charm and natural beauty, making them perfect for a spring break trip!
This is one of my favorite road trips because of the unique variety of things to do and short travel distance.
Start your trip in Santa Barbara, where you can relax on beautiful beaches, explore the historic Mission, and stroll through the picturesque downtown area. My favorite thing to do here is admire the Spanish architecture!
Ventura is the jumping-off point for the Channel Islands National Park, one of my favorite off-the-beaten-path parks. You can hike, kayak, and spot wildlife like seals and sea lions on the islands.
With average spring temperatures ranging from 65°F to 75°F, the weather is perfect for outdoor exploration.
Stay: Avania Inn of Santa Barbara
3. Joshua Tree and Alabama Hills

Best For: Rugged Outdoors
Joshua Tree and Alabama Hills offer two stunning landscapes for outdoor lovers and adventure seekers.
I recommend this trip if you are a road trip lover and want to scratch off various parts of Southern California’s outdoor gems.
In Joshua Tree National Park, explore the surreal desert scenery, unique rock formations, and vibrant wildflower blooms in spring.
Hiking, rock climbing, and stargazing are popular activities here, with average temperatures ranging from 60°F to 80°F.
Just a few hours away, Alabama Hills provides dramatic views of the Eastern Sierra mountains, where you can enjoy hiking, photography, and iconic desert vistas.
