Are you putting together your summer packing list for Spain? This is the guide for you!
I spent two weeks in Spain during one of my summer break trips. From bustling Barcelona to towns like Cordoba and Granada in Southern Spain, I can’t wait to go back!
However… Southern Spain can be over 110℉ in July, and the rest of Spain is really hot, too!
It’s important to plan accordingly to ensure a comfortable trip, while also not taking three suitcases!
This packing list is best for budget travelers who are looking to pack in a minimalist manner in a carry-on item and personal item.
Some of the top items I recommend on a summer packing list for Spain include sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing (think cotton or linen), a microfiber towel, and hydration packets.
Spain Summer Packing List: Essentials
1. Sunscreen
The Spanish sun is strong! Sunscreen is going to be one of your top essentials to keep your skin safe.
Tip: You might even consider a small travel umbrella if your skin is extra sensitive- this helped me out big time during my summer vacation in Crete.
2. Sunglasses

Back to that strong sun! Sunglasses are also going to be essential during Spain’s sunny days.
3. Comfortable Walking Shoes
Spain has some incredible cities, and I have tons of foot issues. With or without foot issues, I always recommend comfortable shoes while traveling.
I don’t like to sacrifice my travel time because I am sore! Comfortable walking shoes go a long way.
Tip: I like white sneakers because they also pair well with a sundress.
4. Microfiber Travel Towel
It’s totally up to you if you plan to pack a towel with your minimalist packing list. But if you plan on spending lots of beach time, I recommend it. Bringing clean, white hotel towels out in the sand doesn’t feel great.
A lightweight microfiber towel like this one barely takes up any space in your bag.
Tip: It doubles as a lightweight picnic blanket!
5. Liquid IV Hydration Packets
This is one of my newest, top summer-recommended packing items! Whether it’s Liquid IV or another brand, I just can’t recommend having hydration packets on hand enough.
I almost passed out in Crete, Greece, last summer. Pack at least 10 hydration pouches. They don’t take up much space and are one of my go-to essential first-aid items now.
6. Power Bank
A battery back or power bank charger for your phone is key on any itinerary. I have been stranded because my phone died too many times to NOT learn from this mistake!
I carry small bags while traveling, so a slim battery pack is ideal for me, but there are options for everyone.
7. Type C Outlet Adapter

Bringing the correct power outlet adapter on any international trip is a huge priority. You can always pick one up at the airport, but it’s going to be triple the price.
I recommend a pack like this one from Amazon. If you are anything like me and you lose things easily, this is perfect because you can throw one in your purse, carry-on bag, etc. If you’re traveling with friends, you can split the pack!
Personally, I don’t love the larger outlet adapters that you can plug many items into at once because it’s so heavy that it always ends up falling out of the wall (at least for me!) Totally a personal preference, though.

Spain Summer Packing List: Clothing
8. Breathable T-shirts
Pack a few cotton, linen, or cotton blend t-shirts!
I have made the mistake of rocking too much polyester during some of my hottest summer trips… It’s not worth the discomfort.
9. Tank Tops
Pack at least two tank tops that you can pair with your shorts, leggings, or even your lightweight cardigan.
Tank tops take up little to no space in your bag and make for a great mix and match with outfits.
10. Sundress

I love a good sundress! A lightweight sundress is fun and stylish for daytime exploring but can double as your evening outfit for a nice dinner.
11. Lightweight Cardigan
I recommend packing a light cardigan with any sundress.
Restaurants are likely to be air conditioned, and you’ll feel comfortable having one on hand!
12. Breathable Shorts

Once again, breathability is key. I recommend shorts that are lightweight and breathable- nothing super compressing or tight.
You want to make sure your fashion is comfortable so you can enjoy all that Spain has to offer!
13. Leggings
I always recommend a pair of leggings, particularly if you are going on a hike (like Monserrate from Barcelona) or simply to layer your look if you plan on spending time indoors where there might be chilly AC.
14. Swimsuit

There are many great places to swim in Barcelona, like the Montjuic Olympic Pool. The coast is known for beaches. Or you might be taking a day trip from Barcelona to a Costa Brava town like Blanes.
Whatever the case, just be prepared for the hot season in Spain with a swimsuit, if you please!
15. Cover-Up
Sometimes, a big t-shirt makes the best cover-up, or maybe you’re into a vibrant, floral cardigan.
Whatever your style, a cover-up is one more way to keep yourself safe from the sun on those Spanish beach days.
Conclusion
In conclusion, packing for a summer trip to Spain is all about staying cool, comfortable, and protected from the sun.
With essentials like sundresses, breathable clothing, a microfiber towel for the beach, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes, you’ll be well-prepared for sunny days and warm evenings.
Keep it simple, pack smart, and enjoy everything Spain has to offer!
