Greece is one of the only countries I have visited more than once, and I honestly can’t wait to keep coming back!
Between hundreds of islands and tons to do on mainland Greece, there is always something more to see and experience.
Packing for a summer trip to Greece requires careful planning, especially when considering the hot, sunny weather and outdoor adventures that await.
From lounging on the beaches of the Greek islands to exploring ancient ruins, having the right items can make all the difference in ensuring a comfortable, enjoyable trip.
This summer Greece packing list includes essential items that will keep you cool, organized, and prepared for anything, while maximizing space in your luggage!
Greece Packing List
Clothing
1. Linen Pants

Linen is one of the most breathable fabrics, and this is what you are going to need in the Mediterranean sun. Especially in the summer!
They protect your skin from the sun without causing overheating, which is critical during long days outdoors.
Linen also dries quickly and resists clinginess, making it ideal for both sightseeing and evenings out.
2. Linen Shorts
I wore a pair of polyester shorts on my Greece trip and I got super uncomfortable super fast.
We are talking temperatures close to 100℉. Breathable fabric is your friend!
Linen shorts are a must for Greece’s hot summer days because they keep you cool while offering a polished look.
They are lightweight, breathable, and dry quickly, making them perfect for walking tours, beach days, or casual dinners.
Unlike denim, linen won’t trap heat or stick to your skin in the humidity.
3. Cotton or Linen T-Shirts
Cotton or linen short-sleeve shirts are essential for summer in Greece because they are lightweight, breathable, and help regulate your body temperature in the intense heat.
Packing a few ensures you stay cool without sacrificing style.
4. Tank Tops

Tank tops are essential for summer in Greece because they offer maximum breathability and comfort in the intense heat.
They are lightweight, easy to layer, and take up minimal space in your luggage. Tank tops are perfect for beach days, hiking, or casual sightseeing.
You can easily pair this with a linen button-down shirt if you are hopping in and out of air-conditioned locations.
5. Dress or Skirt

A flowy dress or skirt is the perfect addition to a summer in Greece itinerary!
Flowy dresses were my favorite for any evening activities during my Crete trip.
Shoes
6. Hiking Sandals
I wear TEVA hiking sandals and find them super supportive and comfortable.
I have also worn Merrell sandals in the past, which have worked great as well!
7. Shower Shoes
If you’re staying in hostels with shared bathrooms, it will be important to pack a pair of rubber flip-flops to wear as shower shoes.
They take up almost no space in your bag!
8. Comfortable Walking Shoes
There is so much exploring to do in Greece. I spent 10 days in Crete last summer, and we walked around everywhere!
Walking Crete is one of my favorite ways to explore, and having comfortable walking shoes will be essential to make sure you stay comfortable while traveling.
More comfort = more exploring! Yay!
9. Hiking Boots or Shoes
I only recommend this if you are planning on completing some extensive hiking like the Samaria Gorge.
Otherwise, comfortable walking shoes should be just fine!
Electronics
10. Portable charger
Portable chargers are one of my packing favorites. Long days spent away from your hotel, lounging at Greece’s amazing beaches or taking day trips may leave you without wall charger access for a long time.
A slim portable charger fits into your bag seamlessly and lets you keep your phone charged on the go!
11. Type C Outlet
A Type C outlet adapter is crucial for traveling in Greece because it ensures you can charge your electronics without issues.
Greece uses the standard European Type C plug, and without an adapter, your devices from other regions won’t fit.
Packing one saves you from scrambling to find a converter at your destination and keeps your phone, camera, and other essentials powered up.
Sun
12. Liquid IV
Liquid I.V. or any hydration powder packets are important for Greece’s summer heat because they help you quickly replace lost electrolytes.
Long days in the sun can cause dehydration faster than you expect.
Adding a packet to your water keeps your energy up and prevents headaches, fatigue, and dizziness while exploring.
13. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin from Greece’s strong UV rays.
With long days under the sun, you risk sunburn and long-term skin damage without it.
Packing a high SPF ensures you’re covered during outdoor activities, beach time, or sightseeing.
14. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must for Greece’s bright, sunny days.
They protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, reducing the risk of strain and long-term damage.
A good pair also improves comfort while sightseeing, driving, or relaxing by the beach!
15. Travel Towel
Pack a microfiber travel towel so you can enjoy those amazing Greece beaches! It’s not great to bring your hotel towel to the pool, so grab a packable one you can re-use all of the time!
Mine takes up almost no space in my luggage and I use it all of the time!
16. Swimsuit
Iconic Greece beach days also mean you’ll want to throw your favorite swimsuit in your bag! If you forget one, there are tons of shops that sell swimsuits across the islands.
17. Hat
A hat is essential for sun protection in Greece, shielding your face and neck from harmful UV rays.
It helps keep you cool by providing shade, preventing overheating, and reducing the risk of sunburn.
A wide-brimmed hat is ideal for long walks, beach days, or outdoor dining in the heat.
Packing
18. Collapsible day backpack
A collapsible backpack is perfect for day trips in Greece because it’s lightweight, foldable, and easy to carry.
It takes up minimal space in your suitcase, making it an ideal travel accessory.
Once unfolded, it provides ample room for essentials like water, snacks, and a camera, and can be packed away when not in use.
19. Vacuum Seal Bags
Vacuum seal bags are a great space-saving solution for packing. They compress clothes, reducing bulk and freeing up room in your suitcase for other items.
They also keep clothes organized and protected from moisture or odors, which is especially helpful for longer trips in humid climates like Greece.
20. Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a practical alternative to vacuum seal bags for organizing your suitcase.
They help keep your clothes neatly arranged, making it easy to access what you need without unpacking everything.
Packing cubes also save space by compressing clothes slightly and ensuring you stay organized throughout your trip.
Conclusion
By packing smart and choosing the right essentials for your summer trip to Greece, you can focus on enjoying your travels rather than worrying about what you forgot.
Items like lightweight clothing, hydration aids, and efficient packing tools will make your journey more comfortable and stress-free.
With this list, you’ll be ready to take on the sun, the sights, and the adventures Greece has to offer. Happy travels!
