Looking for spring break destinations for teachers? This is the guide for you!
I wonder every year, “Where should I go over spring break?” Here is some inspiration to get you started planning your trip.
I get it- as a teacher myself, I understand that our time off is limited and that traveling on a budget is important.
I have traveled somewhere every spring break over the past ten years and have hand-curated a list just for teachers.
Inspiration lists always help me break down my planning when I am trying to decide on a trip!
Latin America Spring Break
1. Guatemala

Guatemala is one of my favorite spring break trips I have ever taken! It’s not very far from the US, so you can expect a shorter fight.
I usually strive for shorter flights over spring break so I can spend more time enjoying my trip and less time in transit!
I spent roughly $20/night on single bedrooms in hostels (average) during my trip. My average meal costs $5-$10.
I highly recommend spending some time relaxing on Lake Atitlan.
🏨Accommodation: I stayed at Del Lago Hostel in San Marcos and loved waking up to incredible views and the opportunity for yoga classes on the hostel’s yoga platform every morning.
2. Mexico City
Mexico City is an amazing cultural hub and by far one of my favorite solo trips I have ever taken.
You can save money in Mexico City by using the city’s huge public transportation system.
I primarily used Uber during my visit and each ride cost less than $5, so this helped me remain on a budget too.
3. Puerto Peñasco

Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, is a beautiful beach town in Mexico, about 5 hours by car from Phoenix.
It also makes for a great weekend trip from Phoenix if you are looking to combine your trip with an Arizona itinerary.
United States Spring Break
4. Pacific Northwest Road Trip

A Pacific Northwest Road Trip is a great way to begin scratching the surface of this region of the United States during your spring break!
My Pacific Northwest Road Trip was one of my favorite spring break trips because I was constantly exploring. I was able to spend a full day in Seattle, hike at Olympic National Park, and a road trip along Oregon’s Coast.
The biggest way I recommend teachers save money on this trip is by tracking rental cars in advance with a tool like Auto Slash and splitting the trip with friends (if possible!)
You can also save money by renting your car at a location outside of the airport.
After arriving at Seattle’s airport, I took a direct train for $3 into Downtown Seattle to pick up my rental Car SUV. For the entire week, it cost about $250.
5. Chicago

I cannot possibly say enough things about visiting Chicago! There are plenty of free things to do in the city for teachers on a budget, like stroll the infamous Millennium Park and take an architecture walk.
There are several free museum days throughout the year. I also recommend free walking tours in every city I visit!
It’s a great way to take a solo trip to Chicago and get your bearings set without breaking the bank.

6. Midwest Road Trip

The Midwest isn’t always, “mid”! There are so many destinations you can take a Midwest spring break road trip to.
From Chicago, you can easily road trip to Starved Rock and Matthiessen State parks to experience your adventure thrill.
Looking for relaxation? Enjoy the lake life at Lake Michigan. There are so many beaches bordering this great lake and it feels like an ocean.
One of my personal favorites it the spring Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan!

7. Arizona

Arizona is the state I have spent the most time in throughout my entire life outside of my home state.
There are so many things to do and you can either spend your week with limitless exploration or in a paradise of relaxation!
Some of the best things to do in Arizona include relaxation and adventure in the red rock region of Sedona, taking a road trip through Northern Arizona, and simply enjoying the city life and mountains that the central Phoenix and Scottsdale area has to offer.
You could plan an amazing combined Sedona and Scottsdale itinerary and keep things on a budget by splitting the cost with your friends, finding a cheap rental car, and camping or staying in hostels.

Europe Spring Break
8. Portugal

Portugal is one of the most beautiful coastal cities in Europe! It didn’t begin gaining popularity until recent years, so it’s still somewhat off the radar.
Portugal is one of the most budget-friendly trips I have taken through Europe. I relied on Flixbus for trips further into the country such as Sintra or Porto.
I didn’t pay more than $15 for tickets and the coach bus was super comfortable.
9. Spain

Spring is such an amazing time to be in Spain! You’ll experience mild temperatures.
I would love to travel back to Southern Spain in Spring for Cordoba’s flower patio festival.
One of my favorite things about traveling in Spain is the limitless things you can do. Want to hike a mountain? You can easily hike to Montserrat on a half-day trip from Barcelona.
10. Amsterdam

Amsterdam is famous in spring for its gorgeous tulip bloom!
I absolutely love visiting Holland and spent more than two weeks exploring the country last year. It’s on my list to visit in the spring.
Teachers have a huge benefit of spring break by hopefully catching the tulips in bloom this time of year! However, you need to remain flexible during any seasonal phenomenon because this is weather-contingent.
There are also many amazing day trips from Amsterdam you can take by bus or train to change it up throughout your week. You can even manage to spend one day in Bruges, Belgium!
If you choose Amsterdam for spring break, I highly recommend flight tracking in advance because everyone else is trying to see the tulip blooms as well!
