9 Fun Things To Do in Scottsdale [2025]

in ,

Are you looking for fun things to do in Scottsdale, Arizona?  This is the guide for you!

I have visited Scottsdale several times since growing up.  I have enjoyed exploring the area as an adult and learning all that it has to offer.

There are plenty of fun things to do in the Greater Phoenix Area.  Scottsdale is a bit city known for its Old Town, hiking trails, and arts scene.  It’s also a great starting point for trips out to the Grand Canyon or Sedona in Northern Arizona

There are plenty of lively activities like nightlife and fine dining options.  Visitors who are looking for something more laidback enjoy the spa and adventure visitors enjoy hiking and ATV options.  Scottsdale caters to a wide range of visitors.

Some of the most fun things to do in Scottsdale include the Desert Botanical Garden, hiking Camelback Mountain, Taliesin West, golf courses, spa day, Old Town Scottsdale, museums, and local dining.

1. Dessert Botanical Garden

A woman smiles in a desert garden surrounded by towering saguaro cacti, embodying the natural beauty encountered on an Arizona journey.

The Dessert Botanical Garden is one of the most popular things to do in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area.  It’s a must on most Arizona itineraries that begin in Phoenix!

The dessert blooms are absolutely beautiful and it’s well worth the visit.

I recommend visiting fall – spring to beat the heat.  I visited in June and chose to cut my visit short due to the 100s temperatures.

2. Camelback Mountain

Hiking the challenging Camelback Mountain is one of the best free things to do in Scottsdale.  The red rock mountain is super steep and rocky.  Parts of the trail feature a metal railing to literally pull yourself up the mountain because it’s so vertical!

I think it’s a beautiful hiking trail because of the red rock scenery and surrounding urban views.  It’s a perfect combination.

For easier routes, consider Pinnacle Peak Park or McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale.

3. Taliesin West

Taliesin West is a fascinating attraction in Scottsdale, designated as a National Historic Landmark. It serves as the winter home and architectural campus of famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

It’s known as an architectural wonder in the area!

Access to Taliesin West is through guided tours, providing an informative and immersive experience. The only part of the grounds you can visit without a tour ticket is the visitors’ center.

It’s recommended to book tours in advance to ensure availability.

4. Golf Courses

Golfing in Scottsdale is a premier activity, largely due to its high quality of golf courses and year-round sunny weather.

Courses like TPC Scottsdale and Grayhawk Golf Club are two of the most popular places to go golfing.

TPC Scottsdale is famously known for hosting the annual Phoenix Open tournament, which attracts huge crowds and top professional players.  Many former and current golf professionals still live in Scottsdale!

5. Spa Day

Scottsdale is renowned for its luxurious spa experiences, making a spa day one of the most enjoyable activities in the area.  Two of the most highly-rated spas in the area are The Spa at Camelback Inn and The Phoenician Spa.

The Spa at Camelback Inn offers an oasis of relaxation with its stunning views and specialized treatments.

Scottsdale’s natural beauty provides the perfect backdrop for a rejuvenating spa day.

6. Old Town Scottsdale

Old Town Scottsdale is known for the town’s premier dining and nightlife options.  It’s also fun to walk around during the day.  The art galleries, boutique shops, and beautiful architecture make it a fun daytime activity as well.

Seasonal festivals and events are also hosted in Old Town throughout the year, making it a great place to experience local activities.

7. Scottsdale Museums

Visiting Scottsdale Museums offers an enriching and enjoyable experience for art and history enthusiasts.

The Museum of Contemporary Art features an impressive collection of modern art and architecture, perfect for those looking to explore avant-garde pieces and innovative exhibitions.

The Museum Of The West celebrates the rich heritage and culture of the American West.

8. Local Dining

Scottsdale features several tasty dining options!

Some of the best brunch restaurants in Old Town are JoJo’s and Morning Squeeze. I had an amazing coffee flight at JoJo’s and recommend it! I also recommend Butters for a hearty, traditional pancake house. There are several locations throughout Scottsdale.

Have a sweet tooth? Sugar Bowl is highly recommended for some of the best ice cream in town!

I also love the ambiance of Culinary Dropout.  The open-air restaurant features tons of fun activities like bags, a pool, and more.

9. Rooftop

There are many amazing rooftop restaurants to choose from in Scottsdale! I had a great experience at Outrider Lounge in Old Town Scottsdale.

It’s most highly recommended for sunset, but I loved visiting for coffee at 11:00am when I had almost the entire rooftop to myself.  It was so relaxing, and the views of the surrounding mountains (especially Camelback) were incredible.  I can’t wait to come back!

Conclusion

Scottsdale is famous for many things, from fine dining to spa days and outdoor adventure activities.  Locals and visitors enjoy the luxurious feel of shopping and fine dining surrounded by desert beauty.

From relaxing at top-rated spas like those at Camelback Inn to exploring the vibrant art scene at Scottsdale Museums and enjoying thrilling hikes on Camelback Mountain, there’s something for everyone.
