2022 marks the 27th US National Snow Sculpting Competition- the only national competition of its kind in the US. Believe it or not, this unique event historically takes place in the midwest.
The Details
Location: It has historically been held in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin around the Riviera waterfront during their annual Winter Fest. This could change at some point.
When: Event takes place every winter, usually the first week of February.
How many days: The sculptors build over 4 days. Spectators can watch the competition process at any time during these days, but the most popular time to visit is Saturday as the teams are wrapping up, and judging begins. It is also crowded during this time.
Parking: Downtown Lake Geneva has plenty of street parking metered at $2 an hour. During Winter Fest weekend, a free shuttle service is offered.
FAQ

Where do teams stay?
All lodging and food is covered for the competitors during the competition period. They are responsible for their own transportation costs to get to Wisconsin.
Do teams travel far?
2022 featured teams from all across the US: Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Illinois (two teams), Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York (two teams), North Dakota, Vermont
Is there an entrance fee?
Nope!
Can I check out the sculptures after the competition?
Sure! But it depends on the weather. They stay up until they melt.
Is this the same as the ice castles?
Nope! This can be confusing because both are located in Lake Geneva. The snow sculpting event is a 4 day national competition, and the ice castles are a seasonal attraction you need to buy tickets for in advance. But that looks like a “cool” event too (ha, see what I did there).
