It’s a perfect stop on your Northern Arizona road trip to Sedona or Flagstaff!

I highly recommend visiting, even if it’s only for a couple of hours.  Jerome has such an off-the-beaten-path charm that you really can’t find elsewhere.

From scenic lookouts to ghost tours, historic landmarks to renowned eateries, this hidden gem has a unique charm that’s well worth discovering.

8 Things To Do in Jerome

1. Entrance Viewpoint

Driving up Route 89A, you will be able to spot the entrance to Jerome.  

There is a lovely, wooden viewing balcony here.  This is the best spot I found to see an overview of the entire town.  

Seeing all of the buildings built into the green cliff-side made me think of beautiful views of Madeira, Portugal, and Cinque Terre, Italy!

There are also a few historical machines on display, and a historical map of the town.

2. Historic Park

The Jerome Historic Park offers fascinating features, such as well-preserved exhibits showcasing the town’s mining history and early architecture.  

You can explore the museum, which includes artifacts, photos, and displays about Jerome’s rise and fall as a copper mining hub. 

Visitors will also find the historic Douglas Mansion, offering panoramic views of the Verde Valley. 

The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is $7 for adults, with discounts for seniors and children.

It’s a perfect stop for history enthusiasts and those looking to learn more about this unique town.

3. Ghost Tours

Taking a ghost tour is one of the most popular things to do in Jerome!

You probably know that Jerome is famous for its haunted history!  

Local guides lead spooky tours that take visitors through what is known as the town’s most eerie locations, including the historic Grand Hotel and former mining sites. 

The tours typically last around 90 minutes and are available in the evenings. 

Whether or not you believe in ghosts, it’s a fascinating way to learn more about Jerome’s unique history and mysterious legends.

4. Grand Hotel (And Restaurant)

The Grand Hotel is one of the town’s most iconic landmarks. 

Built in 1899, the historic hotel was originally built as a hospital, and visitors often tell haunted tales of their stay.  It’s known for ghost stories. 

The hotel’s prices are fixed, and you won’t be able to use any other platforms than the hotel website itself to book. 

There is no option to walk through the haunted hotel (besides the lobby) unless you book a stay.  

Dining at the hotel’s restaurant is a great alternative if you are not planning to stay the night. 

Its menu features local ingredients and classic American dishes. 

5. Stroll Downtown

Downtown Jerome is absolutely adorable. 

It is filled with various boutiques, restaurants, galleries, candy shops, bars, and more.  

There are various staircases throughout town. 

However, the winding road serves as a naturally built ramp and an accessible option for visitors with wheelchairs, strollers, or other mobility needs.  

6. Wineries and Spirit Rooms

Jerome is home to several charming wine tasting rooms and spirit rooms, offering a perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy local flavors. 

These intimate spots showcase Arizona’s growing wine scene, featuring wines made from nearby vineyards with a distinct regional character.

7. Haunted Hamburger (And Other Restaurants!)

For a memorable dining experience in Jerome, consider the infamous Haunted Hamburger.  

Known for its delicious burgers and quirky, haunted reputation, this historic spot is located in a building that once housed the town’s mining offices. 

Enjoy a juicy hamburger or other hearty dishes while soaking in the ghost stories that surround the building.

There are several historical cars and machines displayed throughout the town of Jerome. 

The first ones are located at the start of the entrance viewpoint, next to the viewing platform and map.  

These old pieces of equipment, once used in copper mining, are labeled with nameplates that explain their history and purpose. 

As you walk through the town, you can easily spot these machines, which highlight Jerome’s industrial roots and give visitors a direct connection to its history.
